David Martin, Senior Pastor
Brother David has been pastor at MVBC since August of 1999. He announced his call into the ministry in August of 1986 and has served various churches as Pastor, Youth Pastor, and Associate Pastor. He received a BA in Pastoral Ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, as well as a Master of Ministry and Doctor of Ministry from Covington Theological Seminary.
Brother David and his lovely wife Kayla celebrated 38 years of marriage on July 26, 2023. Kayla is a Registered Nurse and has worked in the nursing field since graduating in 1987. They have two adult children, Blake and Heather. Blake and his wife Ashley currently reside in Dallas, TX and have two children, Dottie and Carver.. Heather currently lives in the Albertville area and has three children, Rileigh-Kay, Eli, and Haylee.
“Growing for His glory” was adopted as the church theme and has since been shortened to "For His Glory". LOVING, LEARNING, and LEADING are essentials to growing in our faith.
Brother David believes it is both a privilege and responsibility of each member of MVBC, to grow in every area of their lives for His glory. In our personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, our homes, our church, our school, our work, and our community, growth is essential. The only time we should cease growing, is when we are in heaven with Jesus.

Nathan Burns, Minister of Music
Music has always been a part of Nathan’s life. Whether it was singing in the church choir, or the College Street Singers from Snead State Community College, or lead singer for the Singing Ambassadors Quartet in Fayetteville, TN., music has shaped his life to being the music director at Mount Vernon. But his greatest decision was at the age of 9 when he asked Jesus to come into his heart and be the Savior of his life.
Later after college he would go on to marry Laurel Williams of Boaz in December of 1993, and would eventually have 3 children, Wesley, Sarah-Anne, and Sadie. While with the quartet, he was asked to be interim music director in October 2000, and would become bi-vocational music director in March 2001. It is a decision he has never regretted. “God has blessed this church and I’m just glad that He would choose me to be a part of this great church as we continue to grow for His glory.” His favorite verse is Matthew 6:33, “seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.”
