David Martin, Senior Pastor

Picture
Brother David has been pastor at MVBC since August of 1999.  He announced his call into the ministry in August of 1986 and has served various churches as Pastor, Youth Pastor, and Associate  Pastor.  He received a BA in Pastoral Ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, as well as a Master of Ministry and Doctor of Ministry from Covington Theological Seminary.

Brother David and his lovely wife Kayla celebrated 30 years of marriage on July 26, 2015. Kayla is a Registered Nurse and has worked in the nursing field since graduating in 1987.  They have two adult children, Blake and Heather.  Blake and his wife Ashley currently reside in Dallas, TX and have one daughter, Dorothy Bea. Heather is married to RJ Busha and they have three children, Rileigh-Kay, Eli, and Haylee.

“Growing for His glory” was adopted as the church theme with its motto being:  "The success to growing is God, the motivation to growing is Jesus, the guide to growing is the Spirit, the key to growing is ME, Lord help ME to do MY part to see MYSELF and MY church grow for Your glory, this is my prayer in Jesus name, Amen."

Brother David believes it is both the privilege and responsibility of each member of MVBC, to grow in every area of their lives for His glory.  In our personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, our homes, our church, our school, our work, and our community, growth is essential.  The only time we should cease growing, is when we are in heaven with Jesus.

Nathan Burns, Minister of Music

Picture
Music has always been a part of Nathan’s life. Whether it was singing in the church choir, or the College Street Singers from Snead State Community College, or lead singer for the Singing Ambassadors Quartet in Fayetteville, TN., music has shaped his life to being the music director at Mount Vernon. But his greatest decision was at the age of 9 when he asked Jesus to come into his heart and be the Savior of his life.

Later after college he would go on to marry Laurel Williams of Boaz in December of 1993, and would eventually have 3 children, Wesley, Sarah-Anne, and Sadie. While with the quartet, he was asked to be interim music director in October 2000, and would become bi-vocational music director in March 2001. It is a decision he has never regretted. “God has blessed this church and I’m just glad that He would choose me to be a part of this great church as we continue to grow for His glory.” His favorite verse is Matthew 6:33, “seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.”

Clay Minor, Associate Pastor of Family Ministries

Picture
Clay has a strong passion for God and desires to watch people grow in their joy in him. He announced his call to preach when he was only 17 years old and was ordained into the ministry just a year later. He served as Youth Pastor at his home church for four years before coming on board at Mount Vernon. Clay obtained an Associated Degree in Religion from Snead State Community College and is near to completion on his Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Ministry and Biblical Studies from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Clay and his wife Carissa were married on August 8th, 2015. Carissa is a bank teller at FNB Bank in Guntersville, AL. They welcomed their first baby boy into the world in 2019 and his name is Lincoln Elijah Minor.

Clay is also a writer and is the chief editor of an organization he created called Joy in the Father. Joy In the Father exists in effort to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the veiled sinners of the world and to supplement believers with the resources to experience the Almighty in a more powerful and intimate way. Clay regularly writes relevant articles for youth and young adults that entices conversation about God and theology.
