How does one control their thoughts? Is it possible to have a pure thought life? Imagine how chaotic life would be if we acted on every thought which entered our mind. Thankfully as Christians, we allow the Holy Spirit to filter everything that comes through the crevices of our mind. Just as a coffee filter only allows the flavor and aroma of the coffee to come forth, so does the Holy Spirit with our thoughts. A hot cup of rich coffee would not be enjoyable if the grounds were floating atop. As so, our lives would not be enjoyable if unfiltered thoughts came forth from our mouths.
The game plan to keep our thought life pure is to commit our ways and works to the Lord. His way is my way. His work is my work. His thoughts are my thoughts. With the good habit of a daily balance of His Word and His Wisdom, our thoughts will be pure. Yet in spite of this good habit, on occasion, the enemy will bombard our minds with evil and wicked thoughts. This is when the Holy Spirit engages our mind through filtering, and if necessary, purging those thoughts before they come forth as words or actions.
Proverbs 16:3 (NKJV) Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established.
